In March 1935, Nancy defied the social norms of her time. Whilst other women had gained their commercial licence before her, at age 19 Nancy became the youngest woman in the British Empire to hold a commercial pilot’s licence and the first woman to use it professionally in Australia.

Throughout her career Nancy has been a tireless campaigner for women in aviation, and she has devoted much of her life to this cause.

On Christmas Eve 2008 this official website, dedicated to her life and wonderful achievements, went live – a lovely Christmas present for her.

On 13 January 2009, Nancy-Bird Walton, AO, OBE passed away peacefully in her sleep, aged 93.

It is wonderful that Nancy knew before she left us that she had her own website and now with the help of her family and many friends, it will still be built.
